Welcome to MosaïKids!

MosaïKids is designed as a series of mini-retreats that nourish and develop the innate spirituality that children already have. It is is not like a traditional Sunday School or catechism in that it is not content-based and non-evangelistic (the goal is not for us all to believe exactly the same thing). It is also intended as a space that promotes relationship-building amidst diversity, one of Christ's primordial tasks and one of the essential ingredients for making the world a better place.

While the program is built on values particularly highlighted in the Christian tradition, such as compassion, justice, awe and co-creation, we recognize that many other traditions and ideologies share the same aspirations. We hope that children from their earliest age will experience spirituality not as a moralistic or individualistic practice, but as a resource for being in the world, experiencing the divine in ways that are authentic to them, and honoring the interconnectedness of all people, places and things. For this reason, we incorporate stories from not only Christian sources, but also folk tales and parables from a variety of traditions.

How it works

Each gathering will last an hour and a half and will include the following elements:

  • An opening ritual for sharing joys and concerns

  • A story, parable or other source of wisdom with space for open-ended reflection

  • A creative activity that is process-based, not product-based

  • A suggestion for a follow-up activity at home that involves other generations

Our approach centers on:

  • Attention to the uniqueness of each child

  • Personal and detailed encouragement (not generic and not evaluative, ie. "What wavy and colorful patterns you have made!" instead of "Good job!")

  • Nourishing "right relationship" among all participants (forgiveness, saying "no" when appropriate and necessary, understanding how we need one another, honoring our own limits and those of others, etc.)

  • Experience-based and collaborative exploration of what is sacred to each of us

  • Collective exploration of texts selected on the basis of our community values and mission
